Wichard Shackles — Operating Instructions

Description & Material

  • Shackles are lifting accessories used to connect other components of lifting systems; they are subject to European directive 2006/42/EC (May 17th 2006) on lifting accessories.
  • Wichard shackles are made of stainless steel AISI 316L (default) or structural hardened martensitic stainless steel AISI 630 (marked «HR»).
  • They are intended for frequent assembly and disassembly. Check them before each use and periodically for long-term applications. They should only be used and checked by competent, trained people.

Marking

Mark Meaning
WLL Working load limit (Kg)
CE CE marking in accordance with machinery directive 2006/42/EC
W Manufacturer's name
19A1206 Traceability code (only for concerned products): 19 = year of manufacturing / A = month of manufacturing (A = January, B = February etc.) / 1206 = product reference

Before Use, Ensure That

  • All markings are apparent and readable.
  • Shackle body and pin are of the same type.
  • Body and pin are free from dents, deformations, cracks, corrosion or significant wear.
  • The threads are not damaged.
  • The pin is fully screwed (pin collar or head in contact with the body).

Rules for Use and Care

  • Use appropriate tools (for example a shackle key) to assemble and disassemble the shackle.
  • Avoid contact between stainless-steel shackles and steel parts, to avoid contamination (rust spots).
  • Never exceed the WLL (working load limit) marked on the shackle body.
  • The load applied to a shackle must never be lateral.
  • To obtain the rated WLL (CMU), the span on the shackle axis must be at least equal to 80% of the distance between the two heads.
  • Do not use the product as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Do not store in a damp room. Air dry and lubricate the threads after contact with water or after cleaning with water.
  • The service life of the shackle depends on its use. In case of safety uncertainty, replace the product.
