How to Use the Chart
- Cross-reference your boat length overall (masthead rigs) or sail area (fractional rigs) with the application to find the winch size.
- Lighter shading marks the upper limit of a model. If in doubt, move up a model.
- Runner and mainsheet winch sizes depend on the purchase system and expected loads; dynamic loads can raise them dramatically.
- Multihulls have more righting moment than monohulls of the same length, so they need larger winches – ask Lewmar or your rigger. Lewmar will also make recommendations from your deck and sail plans.
