Ronstan Series 32 I-Track Safety Rail System — Selection Guide

What It Is

  • A safety rail for commercial work boats (pilot, fire and rescue, police and military patrol, commercial fishing): an attachment point for personal fall protection equipment that lets crew move about the deck in any sea conditions.
  • Meets the requirements of the Australian National Standards for Commercial Vessels (NSCV), Part C, Section 1, 6.19.4 (Pilot Launches - Equipment).
  • Track rails: rigid profile, marine grade aluminium AL6061-T6, black anodised to 25µm. Straight lengths, 90-degree corners with 500mm radius (can be trimmed to the required angle, mainly for the front of the cabin) or tight 125mm radius (narrow side decks, sharp corners), and 15-degree deflection lengths for angle changes along the cabin side.
  • Cars: grade 316 stainless steel bodies with flared sides and angled stainless steel bearing wheels; free running or plunger lock, with large lanyard take-off points.
  • RC6320 track profile: 32mm (1 1/4") high, 32mm (1 1/4") wide at the base, top flange 16.3mm (21/32") wide and 5.2mm (7/32") thick.
  • Customised track rails are available where standard corners do not suit; 2D drawings are available for designers and builders.

Mounting & Fastening

  • Mount to the vessel handrails, a separate substrate or a series of supports. Cars must travel in a horizontal plane (parallel to the water plane) within ±5°, except where needed to keep the track position relative to the user on a sloping or cambered deck; fastenings ideally perpendicular to the water plane.
  • Fastenings: M6 (1/4") countersunk, at 100mm (3 15/16") centres; Grade 316 stainless steel with a nominal minimum strength of 700MPa (101ksi), torque no more than 7.1Nm (5.2 ft lbf).
  • Unsupported spans with no fastenings up to 900mm (35 7/16") maximum. Each span or join must be supported by a minimum of two fasteners at 100mm (3 15/16") centres at each end, with a joiner and a bracket or splice plate for maximum rigidity.
  • Standard track rails: the centre of the last mounting hole at each end is 48mm (1 29/32") from the end, so fasteners across a join are 96mm (3 25/32") apart. The two end fasteners, across a join or at an end, must never be more than 100mm (3 15/16") apart.
  • Stop holes at 50mm (2") centres.
  • Substrate, backing plates and brackets must be designed for a minimum 600kg (1320lb) ultimate static load (NSCV Part C, Edition 2.0 Section 1, 6.19.4.d).
  • Standard bends are A-bends, track mounted on a horizontal surface (90°). Custom lengths, configurations and radius bends can be quoted on request.
