LanguageEnglish
Code 0 → CX
- Straight luff set under tension; mid girth <75% of foot length.
- An AT-cable is integrated in the luff with thimbles at head and tack; the whole luff furls at once.
- Hoisted as high as the mast allows and tacked to the bow or a sturdy bowsprit. Flat design, best at apparent wind angles between 40° and 90°.
Asymmetric spinnaker → GX
- Mid girth >75% of foot length; luff at least 2% longer than the leech.
- Top-down furling: an AT-cable joins drum and halyard swivel and carries the drum rotation to the head, so the sail furls from the top down.
- Fitted to the bow or preferably a retractable Selden bowsprit; moderate halyard tension, hoisted on the spinnaker halyard. Generally for apparent wind angles between 90° and 120°.
- Before furling, take the power out of the sail by releasing the sheet and, if possible, bearing away.
How CX and GX Work
Both run an endless furling line over a line-driver drum, led back to the cockpit through double fairleads and locked in a twin-cam block. To douse: ease the sheet, pull the continuous line and secure it in the twin-cam block; the furled sail can then be dropped and bagged or left hoisted.
- Metal "teeth" in the drum grip the line when furling.
- A wedge in the line guide separates the line from the drum when unfurling, so the drum spins freely.
- Sealed steel bearings in the drum and halyard swivel.
- Rubber fender stops the halyard swivel chafing the mast while hoisting the furled sail.
- CX: spring-loaded lock to connect the thimbles to drum and halyard swivel.
- GX: patented line lock to mount the AT-cable to drum and halyard swivel.
- All structural parts in high-strength Duplex stainless steel.
- Non-structural parts in glass fibre reinforced polyamide composite.
- GX systems come standard with the AT-cable.
- Tack ring with Torlon® ball bearings.
Selden CX for Code 0
Special cable clamps are required to fit the thimbles to the Selden AT-cable. A dedicated Code 0 halyard is required, and a 2:1 purchase is recommended. Drum and furling line can be permanently mounted to the bow and along the stanchions.

Selden GX for Top-Down Furling
The kit includes GX drum, halyard swivel and AT-cable; drum and swivel are permanently fitted to the sail with the Selden line lock. Connect the drum to the bow and the spinnaker halyard to the swivel, lead the furling line aft through double fairleads, tension it and lock it in the twin-cam block, then hoist the furled sail.

CX Drum for Top-Down Furling
CX drum + Free Tack Adapter & GX halyard swivel (gennaker only)
The furled sail with the adapter connects to the CX drum and is hoisted on the spinnaker halyard.
CX for Code 0 and gennaker on one halyard
All-in-one: the CX drum and thimble halyard swivel serve both the Code 0 and a gennaker. The Free Tack Adapter is fitted permanently to the gennaker tack with the line lock; connect whichever sail suits the conditions and hoist on the Code 0 halyard.
AT-Cables and Endless Furling Line
The more torsionally rigid the AT-cable, the quicker and safer the sail furls; the Selden cable is included in the GX kit.

Line lock: pull the conical terminal over the line, fold the core over the set of wedges, insert the wedges in the terminal, fit the drum or halyard swivel and tighten the locking screw.
Code 0 Halyard with 2:1 Purchase
To reach the luff tension a Code 0 needs, the halyard load must be higher than normal halyard boxes and stoppers can handle. Arrange a 2:1 purchase: fix the dead end of the halyard in the mast and run it through a block attached to the halyard swivel. The position on the mast must be specified by Selden; in most cases Code 0 sails are hoisted lower than gennakers and spinnakers.

Thimbles, Cable Clamps and Adapters
Cable clamps fit thimbles to the Selden AT-cable; heat shrink tubing included. For CX25 and CX45, double clamps are required at each end of the AT-cable.
Adapters add a tack swivel to a CX furler, so the CX drum can be used for both Code 0 and asymmetric spinnaker. Patented line lock and Torlon ball bearings.
Tack Swivel, Shackles and Masthead Bracket
Adjustable Tack Swivel (ATS)
Slides up and down the AT-cable on a downhaul from the cockpit to trim the gennaker luff while the AT-cable stays permanently tensioned. The sliding sleeve is in two halves, so it retrofits onto an AT-cable.
Low friction shackle
Big rounded loop for low-friction line passage; used to tension a CX with 2:1 purchase and to haul the CX out on a bowsprit from the foredeck. High strength Duplex steel.

Anti-Twist shackle
Optional shackle between halyard and halyard swivel; the long pin leans on the mast and stops a "soft" halyard twisting. Not needed with a 2:1 halyard or a high quality Dyneema® halyard.
Bracket for masthead rigs
Moves the halyard forward so a GX halyard swivel clears the forestay on a masthead rig. For gennakers / asymmetric spinnakers only, not Code 0. Max righting moment at 30° heel: 35 kNm.
A Code 0 luff load is more than double that of an asymmetric spinnaker, so a sturdy bowsprit is required.
