Extendable Gennaker Bowsprit

Sold as a kit for deck mounting: fit the two stainless pad eyes to the deck in line with the bow bracket. The bracket is a stainless ring with a low-friction polyamide lining the bowsprit slides through to its "active" position; after the gennaker is doused it slides back and is secured to the aft eye, or comes out quickly for stowage below. A spring-loaded locking device holds it.

  • The gennaker tackline runs through the bowsprit, in and out via well rounded holes, then aft to the cockpit; alternatively fit an external tack block at the outboard end.
  • Kit: aluminium or carbon bowsprit section, inboard end fitting with plunger, outboard end fitting, 2 stainless steel pad eyes, instructions.

Dimensioning: USL and DBS

  • USL = unsupported length (outboard of the bow bracket); DBS = distance between supports (bow bracket to inboard support).
  • Find your righting moment at 30° (kNm) or approximate displacement (tonnes), then read max USL and min DBS for each bowsprit size. Use the gennaker table or the Code 0 table for the sail you will fly.
  • Bold numbers mean min DBS is limited by bow ring capacity. If a custom bow ring is used, min DBS is 8 × pole diameter.
  • 1) No standard bow bracket is available; with a custom bow ring, min DBS is 8 × pole diameter.
