Selden Hydraulic Cylinders — Selection Guide

Manual Hydraulics

  • HTI (Hydraulic Tensioner Integral): the closed system and pump handle are built into the backstay cylinder; nothing else is needed. You may need to adjust the backstay wire length; check the lower clevis pin fits your chainplate.
  • HT backstay adjuster, hydraulic vang, halyard tensioner: connected to a control panel in the cockpit (manual pump, needle valve to release pressure, selector valve). Low-pressure side between tank and panel, high-pressure side between panel and cylinder.
  • Mast-jack: a cylinder in the heel of a keel-stepped mast lifts the mast to tension the rig; shims go between heel and T-base, then pressure is released and the pump removed. Best specified with a new mast or boat.
  • Outhaul: available for the larger Selden boom sections; seldom retrofitted, specified before the boom is built.
  • Electric pump (12/24V) between tank and control panel replaces manual pumping.
  • Panels: 2-speed (fast until a pre-set pressure, then low speed), "Dual Action" (pumps on push and pull), adjustable relief valve, black or clear anodized.

Follow These Steps

  1. More than one function? Choose the 4-function panel.
  2. Clear anodized (silver) or black panel.
  3. One or two panels (two lets you trim from either side of the cockpit).
  4. Oil reservoir sized to the total volume of the cylinders.
  5. Low-pressure hoses (tank to panel): two are needed.
  6. Coupling kit for the number of panels.
  7. High-pressure hose length for each function; the function sets the terminal angle.
  8. A deck-gland for a high-pressure hose through the deck.
