Thruster Finder

  1. Thruster power: enough thrust for your intended use with a good safety margin, the placement on the boat, and an adequate, sustained energy supply.
  2. Available space: tunnel thrusters are the standard fit; retractable or external thrusters suit boats without internal space for a tunnel in the right position.
  3. Features: on/off or PRO™ variable speed (hold function, single-handed docking, extended run time, less noise, joystick integration); ignition protection, stern cowls, extra panels, remote controls, automatic main switch.
  4. Planning: a professional installer sets up panels, remotes, electrical installation, tunnels and installation materials.

Thrust and Battery Ratings

  • Thrust is rated at 10.5V and 21V, the voltage most installations can deliver to the thruster; 12V and 24V ratings are listed for comparison.
  • Battery CCA ratings are DIN: multiply by 1.9 for the corresponding SAE rating at 0°F (ABYC).
  • CCA = the current a 12-volt battery can deliver at 0°F (-18°C) for 30 seconds while staying at or above 7.2 volts.
  • Previous Sleipner thrusters can be upgraded with E-series motors; some fit directly on the old motor bracket (PDF page 23).

SE30 and SE40 bow thrusters come in 125 mm and 140 mm tunnels (125S2 / 140S), as stern thrusters in 125 mm only; SE20, SE25 and SE50 are not available as stern thrusters. SEP (PRO) versions are listed for SE20–SE130. SE300 is listed at 48V. Bow and stern dimensions, stern tunnel kits and cowls are on PDF page 27; IP versions on page 29.

Windlass Selection

  • 12-volt boats up to 3 tons: motor around 600 watts; over 3 tons: about 1000 watts; larger 24-volt boats usually around 1500 watts.
  • Maximum load capacity should be four times the usual working load (anchor, rode and hardware). Midi 203 suits boats up to 25 feet, the Maxi series boats up to 70 feet.
  • Lead-line windlasses all have automatic free fall, soft start and double auto-stop; chain windlasses have no free fall. Fuse: 150A for Midi, 200A for Maxi windlasses (per the sizing guide).
  • Anchor guide: boats up to 2 tons 5 kg; 3 tons 7,5 kg; 4 tons 10 kg; 8 tons 15 kg; 15 tons 20 kg; 20 tons 30 kg. A swivel and an anchor safety chain are recommended for all installations.

Recommended minimum battery for Maxi: 100 Ah (12 V), 60 Ah (24 V). Maxi 43 & 44 is listed with a 150 Amp fuse although the sizing guide gives 200A for Maxi windlasses (as printed).
