Zhik Sailing Gear: Where to Start Within the Range

This is the parent page for the Zhik range. The products sit in the sub-collections below. Zhik makes gear for two quite different kinds of sailing: dinghy and skiff racing, where fit, stretch and hiking protection decide the suit, and coastal and offshore sailing, where the salopette, smock and seaboot decide how long you stay dry. Start from the job and the water temperature, then pick the collection.

How to Choose Within the Zhik Range
  • Racing a dinghy or skiff: start from the suit. Zhik rates its hiker suits by neoprene thickness and conditions: Superwarm is 3/2 mm for cold water, Microfleece is 2/1 mm for moderate conditions, and the Hybrid Gear pant is UPF 50+ spandex described for hot weather. Then add boots, gloves and hiking straps.
  • Coastal and offshore sailing: choose the shell by where you sail. Going by the product titles, the OFS salopettes and smocks are the offshore range (the OFS700 is named the Offshore Sailing Salopette) and the INS range is the inshore line (the INS400 is the Inshore Performance Salopette). A drysuit is the one-piece alternative to the salopette and smock pairing.
  • Layering under a shell: base layer first, then fleece or insulated jacket. The Hydrophobic Fleece pieces have a water-repellent outer to shield against splashes and rain, while Superthermal Hydrobase and Core Baselayer are the next-to-skin options.
