INSTALLATION MANUAL

How to size, fit and load a Facnor Facslide+ batten car system (F10, F20, F30, F40) on the mast, with car and track dimensions, the exploded view and the full spare-parts lists, plus the former Facslide range (F07 to F40).

Facnor Facslide+ Batten Car System — Installation Manual

This manual is split into 3 pages: Part 1 · Part 2 → · Part 3 →

Precautions & Package

  • The tracks are aluminium extrusions and highly conductive: keep the system away from electric cables and high-tension lines, and do not install it when stormy weather is forecast.
  • Cars and tracks are anodised against corrosion: handle them with care, any scratch can alter the protection.
  • Never use the cars to climb the mast. The system is designed only to hoist and reef a full-battened mainsail.
  • Keep these instructions and the small storage tracks delivered with the cars on board.

Package inventory

  • Facnor box: intermediate cars, batten cars, 2 end stops for tracks, 1 headboard double car, 1 plastic bag with slugs and screws + bolts.
  • Long parcel: the aluminium tracks plus 1 loading track of 0.35 m (F10-20-30) or 0,33 m (F40). The top track is easy to find: no pin is fitted at either end.

Calculating the Top Track Length

Model S = standard track length (mm) C = loading track length (mm) E (mm)
F10-20-30 2000 350 21
F40 1700 330 5
  1. Measure the available length A on the mast (mm).
  2. Add up the standard tracks: S x n + C = L (n = number of standard tracks).
  3. Top track length: A – L – 2 x E = B. Cut the standard track that has no pin fitted: it goes at the top. (F30 top track has double drilling.)

Fitting the Tracks on the Mast

  1. Prepare the slugs: 14 slugs per 2 m track, 12 slugs per 1.7 m track.
  2. Drill the cut top track (table below) and fit it in the mast groove; clean before gluing (the French text specifies threadlocker). Screw a nut onto the top screw only, without tightening; once the track lies against the mast, fit the other nuts from the bottom up, still without tightening firmly.
  3. Fit the standard tracks: 2 m (F10-20-30) or 1,70 m (F40).
  4. Fit the loading track, 0,35 m (F10-20-30) or 0,33 m (F40), between the bottom standard track and the gooseneck, the same way as the others. Do not tighten its bolts yet.
  5. Go up the mast (with the usual precautions) and tighten all track bolts definitively, except those of the loading track, which is used to load the cars.
Model A Ø B Ø C
F10-20-30 25 5.5 13
F40 15 5.5 16

Loading the Cars

  1. Remove the loading track from the mast. Check the fitting order of the cars.
  2. The headboard car goes first: check its direction and remove the tape from the top end of its storage track.
  3. Hold the storage track against the mast, aligned with and touching the bottom standard track, and slide the headboard car up onto the standard track.
  4. Use a stop (a screw or a cap in a track hole, not supplied) so the fitted cars cannot slide down, then slide the other cars up in the correct order.

Car Pin & Maintenance

  • To remove the pin of a batten or intermediate car, push the spring only to release it; to lock, simply push the pin (pin head upwards). The click means it is locked.
  • Rinse the whole system (tracks and cars) regularly with fresh water only.
  • Never apply grease or lubricant to the tracks or cars.
