Why a 2:1 Code Zero Halyard

For Code Zero performance the halyard load is higher than normal halyard boxes and stoppers can take. A 2:1 purchase – dead end fixed in the mast, halyard running through a block on the halyard swivel – halves the load on the halyard routing. Code Zero sails usually hoist lower than gennakers and spinnakers. The position of the 2:1 arrangement on a Seldén mast must be specified by Seldén, who can give the correct CZH (Code Zero Height) from the mast ID number.

  • Single aluminium halyard boxes do not need a halyard lead.
  • Alternatively the halyard is led from a standard spinnaker box through a halyard lead.
  • A = distance from the dead end to the CZH; C = from the CZH down to the max code zero system height (see the drawing in the PDF).
