Install the Sleipner S-Link automatic main switch 897712 (12V) / 897724 (24V): placement, dimensions, fuse and cable fitting, S-Link and coil-feed wiring for SEP and retract thrusters, and panel fault messages.

Considerations and Dimensions
- Install the AMS as close to the battery bank as possible, in a location that stays dry at all times, with quick access to the shut-off button and short power cables.
- Only connect it to compatible original Sleipner control panels or control devices.
- Do NOT fit it in spaces requiring ignition protected equipment.
- Use the correct fuse for the installed thruster model (see the thruster installation manual). This manual is used in addition to the thruster manual and is intended for professionals.
| Code | Description | mm | inch |
|---|---|---|---|
| H | Height | 194.3 | 7.6 |
| L | Length | 205 | 8.1 |
| W | Width | 79 | 3.11 |
| +W | Width including fasteners | 90 | 3.54 |
| (a) | Attachment hole from the top | 51.5 | 2.03 |
| (b) | Attachment hole from the bottom | 92.8 | 3.65 |
| (c) | Attachment hole from the side | 37.5 | 1.5 |
| (d) | Distance between attachment holes | 121.8 | 4.8 |
| (e) | Attachment hole from the side | 45.7 | 1.8 |
Mounting, Fuse and Cables
- Remove the cover screws and cover; secure the AMS with the two mounting holes on each side.
- Remove the nuts and washers, install the fuse (type and rating per the thruster installation manual).
- Assemble washers, battery cable(s), end washer and nuts; tighten to 20 Nm (14.5 lb/ft). The bolts are brass: excessive torque damages the threads.
- Fit the thruster cable(s) the same way and tighten to the recommended torque.
- Manual override: pulled out = remote controlled ON/OFF (default); pushed in = OFF. Leave it OFF when leaving the boat for long periods or when installing or servicing the thruster system.
Do NOT use washers between lugs: it can cause overheating and a thermal event. Spring washers go in the outer position before tightening the nut. For dual cables, leave one washer on each bolt as shown in the PDF.
Electrical Installation
- Fit only one thruster to each automatic main switch, and install the correct main fuse for the thruster model.
- Coil feed from any 12V or 24V battery source through a 5A fuse; an on/off switch is optional, and not needed if the source already has a main switch.
- Connect the S-Link cable to the S-Link network; the AMS is assigned to bow or stern.
- The system diagram shows bow and stern SEP thrusters with PPC proportional power controllers (fixed multicable 5m), PJC 212 joystick panels at two stations, optional 8730 external switch interfaces and an S-Link supply; a manual main switch with ANL fuse can replace the AMS. Observe PPC battery terminal polarity.
- ON/OFF configuration: 4-lead cable thruster ↔ AMS (red wire not connected into the AMS); proportional: 5-lead cables and 5-lead Y-connectors to the panels. Main cable sizes per the thruster manual.
With the main switch off, check with an ohmmeter that there is no connection between the electro-motor flange and the motor positive terminal, or the battery negative terminal on the motor.
Service and Troubleshooting
- Keep the equipment clean and dry.
- Check all cable and other connections are tight, without signs of excessive heat or corrosion.
| Panel message | Action |
|---|---|
| Manual override | The override button has been pushed: pull it to activate |
| Fuse is blown | Replace the fuse, or check the main cables to battery and thruster |
| Communication fail | Panel has lost contact with the AMS: check S-Link and/or power connections |
| Power failure | AMS has no power: check the 5A fuse, the power connection and power on the red and black wire |
| Overtemperature | High internal temperature from excessive current: the contactor stays open until it cools below the threshold – wait for the AMS to cool |
S-Link System Rules
Cables & Connectors
| Component | Role |
|---|---|
| BACKBONE Cable (blue ends) | Common power and communication bus through the vessel; standard lengths |
| SPUR Cable (green ends) | One per connected product, no exceptions; keep as short as practical |
| POWER Cable | Required in every installation; only one per BACKBONE; protect with a 2A fuse. Yellow and black wires to GND, red to +12VDC or +24VDC |
| T-Connector | One per SPUR or POWER Cable on the BACKBONE |
| 4-Port T-Connector | Several SPUR Cables on one point; two sealing caps for unused ports |
| BACKBONE Extender | Joins two BACKBONE Cables |
| END Terminator | One at each end of the BACKBONE bus |
Installation Rules
- Keep BACKBONE and SPUR lengths to a minimum; consult your distributor if the total BACKBONE exceeds 100 meters.
- Fasten cables to avoid sharp bends, chafe and strain on connectors; close the connector locks fully.
- Do not leave cables, T-Connectors or Extenders permanently immersed; make a U-bend before each product connector so water does not run into it.
- Ideally connect the POWER Cable in the middle of the BACKBONE for equal voltage drop at both ends.
- Route S-Link away from radio transmitters, antennas and high voltage cables.
- Unused SPUR cables may be left unterminated for future equipment: protect the open connectors from water.
- Connect only original Sleipner S-Link products or authorised equipment directly to the bus; third-party equipment goes through a Sleipner interface, and at least one original Sleipner control panel must still be installed.
