Sleipner Control Panel 8700 — Installation & User Manual

Using the Panel

  1. Turn on the thruster main power switch (always off when you leave the boat).
  2. Press both ON buttons together to activate the panel and deploy the thruster; OFF retracts it and shuts down.
  3. Press the directional button for the way you want the bow (or stern) to move.
  4. Release shortly before the boat reaches position – she keeps drifting.

If two panels are operated in conflicting directions the thruster will not run. Forward or reverse speed must not exceed 4 knots. Above about 1-2 kn a side thruster has little steering effect.

Status LEDs

LED Meaning
Solid yellow Panel is on
Flashing green Thruster deploying
Solid green Deployed and ready
Flashing red Retract phase
All off Panel and thruster shut down

The thruster will not retract while reversing at high speed: that triggers "Retract operation obstructed". Slow down and press both ON buttons before retrying OFF.

Dimensions & Fitting

Measurement mm inch
Internal panel diameter cut-out 51.8 2
Panel height × width 71 × 71 2.8 × 2.8
Raised height above dashboard 7 0.26
Depth behind dashboard (no cables) 41 1.61
Screw hole diameter 3 0.12
Distance between screw holes 61 2.4

The measurement table in the 8700 manual is headed "*86-08950 / *86-08955" (as printed); the drawing shows the square 8700 panel, matching the 86-08950 column above.

  1. Choose a flat, easy-to-reach spot that does not obstruct other devices.
  2. Mark and cut the hole with the supplied cut-out template; seal a chipped edge to help the gasket.
  3. Fit the gasket to the back of the panel and plug in the cables.
  4. Fasten the screws and fit the cover caps.

S-Link Bow / Stern Setup

  1. Factory default: the panel controls the bow thruster. For a stern panel, disconnect all bow-thruster S-Link equipment (panel, AMS, control box, interface) and leave the stern equipment connected.
  2. With the panel OFF, press and hold ON button 2 and PORT together for approx. 3 seconds: yellow blinks, green (bow) or red (stern) lights.
  3. Press STARBOARD to assign the panel and all connected devices as STERN (red confirms), or PORT for BOW (green confirms).
  4. Turn off the panel and reconnect all S-Link equipment.

The system runs on S-Link with the retract thruster controller 6 1242, actuator, optional foot switches and remote control, and either a manual main switch with main fuse or an Automatic Main Switch with S-Link (5A supply fuse, 120 ohm terminators).
