No-load current <0.1A with 12v
Power consumption 10-200A, approx 40A with 30kg load
Typical boat size < 7m / <25ft
Pulling power (electronically governed) Up to 200kg
Pulling speed 15-30m/min, approx 20m/min with 30kg load
Weight 9.8 kg / 21.6 lbs
Anchor weight (recommended) 5 to 15 kg
Motor Custom made PMDC motor
Line Braided lead line dia. 12 mm, breaking load 1600 daN
Auto stop Yes
Minimum battery 12v / 75Ah

True free-fall windlass: the anchor must be heavy enough to overcome the friction and weight of the anchor line and pulley system. Use a Sleipner woven anchor line with lead core (30 and 50 meter lengths).

Placement and Mounting

  • Plan motor, thru-hull conduit, anchor and windlass brackets, control box, cables, main switch/circuit breaker and control panel. Mount the windlass as high as possible and make the bitter end fast inside the boat.
  • Keep the anchor line straight between windlass and anchor bracket. A low windlass relative to the anchor roller needs a hinged platform roller or the pivoting platform roller with spring «62-30000» so the free fall works.
  • The mounting bracket and the line guide / stop sensor bracket rotate independently: loosen, rotate, re-tighten (max. 17 Nm each). Aim the line down and away from anything that stops it coiling.
  • Entry-to-exit angle round the gypsy maximum 90 degrees; the line always enters from the right. Thread it between gypsy and guide, out through the deflector, then let the windlass pull it through – tight the first time, fingers clear.

Anchor Line Clearance

Anchor line A (cm) B (cm) C (cm)
12 mm x 30 m 35 30 30
12 mm x 50 m 40 35 35

Rope clearance under the windlass 200 mm: too little causes jamming and spinning when reeling in. With a horizontal exit the A/B/C relationship can vary; the line must never be forced under the windlass.

Stop Rings and Sensor

  • An inductive sensor in the line guide signals auto stop by detecting two steel stop rings (included) on the line; the ring outer diameter must be as close as possible to the line diameter.
  • Lift the anchor until the thimble eye is 25-50 cm below the line roller and mark the line at the sensor. Reel in at low speed (double-click UP) to the final resting position and mark again. Fit the rings at the marks.
  • Fitting: open the ring with pliers, fit it over the line with the joint overlapping, then force the ends into the line so it cannot slip (closed windings, ends inside the line).
  • If the windlass stops where it should not (the sensor reads the rope core instead of the rings): release the set screw, move the sensor out approximately 1 - 2 mm, tighten gently and test; repeat until correct.
  • Inspect the rings regularly – the line wheel wears them under heavy loads – and replace damaged ones.

Wiring

  • All wiring with the main switch/circuit breaker OFF and no battery cables attached.
  • Control unit 150800: not water resistant or splash proof – dry place close to the motor, cables downwards, on its stand-off mounts. M6 terminals, max. 5Nm, spacers and washers in the order shown.
  • Fit the A1-A2 copper link; motor red to D1/M+, black to D2/M−; battery negative to B−; breaker/fuse to B+ and on to the battery main switch. Leave the breaker off until the installation is complete.
  • Battery cable size for total length A+B+C: <10m 25mm2, >10m 35mm2. Wrong direction: swap D1 and D2 in the control unit.
  • Panels 86-08950 or 86-08955 on the 150810 contact unit (black V−, blue IN, grey OUT, red V+); auto-stop sensor brown, black, blue.
  • Circuit breaker 119-00015 (Midi 150A) MUST be used: it is both MCB and main switch (ON = pin switch up, OFF = red button). Wrong connection of high-current parts can cause fire.

Controller Configuration

  1. Press and hold "Config" for 3 seconds until the Power and Fault LEDs blink.
  2. Press "Config" to cycle through the windlass types until the Mode LEDs show the right pattern: NOT SET, MINI ROPE, MIDI ROPE, MAXI ROPE, MAXI CHAIN, MHPP ROPE or MIDI COMBI.
  3. The controller returns to normal operation after 3 seconds of inactivity; check the pattern (also printed on the back of the terminal covers).

MHPP ROPE is for specific installations only and can damage the windlass if not required. MIDI COMBI (chain or chain-and-rope rode) needs controller firmware V1.013 or newer.

Fault Codes

  • When the "Fault" LED is lit, the Mode LEDs (visible with the terminal cover removed) show the last fault: Low Voltage, Motor Overload, Controller Overtemp, Motor Overtemp, Controller Overload or Runtime Exceeded. Some faults inhibit operation, others allow continued use.

Operating Safety

  • Keep clear of the windlass, anchor line, anchor and brackets during operation, and watch the rope or chain while handling the anchor.
  • If the windlass strains while raising, stop for a few seconds and let the boat gain momentum. If the anchor is stuck, pay out some line, make it fast to a cleat and use the boat to break it out: the windlass is not designed for loads beyond its rated pull.
  • The anchor must always be secured to the boat while under way (safety line or other means).
  • Keep the engine running during windlass operation. Children must not operate the windlass. Never use it close to anyone in the water.
  • While dropping the anchor, do not press "UP" until the anchor is resting on the seabed.

Warranty: two years for leisure use, one year for commercial and other non-leisure use, from delivery to the end user (dealer and builder grace periods apply). Wearable/service parts are not covered, and skipping the maintenance described in the manuals voids the warranty on the affected parts.
