Sleipner Control Panels PJC211 & PJC212 — Installation & User Manual

Panel Layout

  • PJC211: one speed-control joystick; PJC212: separate bow and stern joysticks. Both with information display, HOLD buttons, MENU, day/night and OFF buttons.
  • Press both ON buttons together to activate; OFF deactivates, cancels or goes back, and mutes the internal buzzer.
  • Hold MENU for 3 seconds for the menu system; the (stern) joystick moves between items, buttons act on the symbols shown above them.
  • Display: status, thrust and direction for bow and stern (and STB thrusters in dual setups); battery indicator 8.5V to 12V (12V) or 15V to 24V (24V) and motor temperature 70°C/158°F to 130°C/266°F on single DC thrusters; "L" when a thruster output is limited (extended runtime).
  • Retractables: deploy/retract symbols; once deployed and idle for 10 seconds, a beep every 10th second.
  • Forward or reverse speed must not exceed 4 knots when using the thruster.

HOLD Function

  • Runs all thrusters in the same direction at a fixed level – useful to hold the boat against the dock while mooring.
  • Press + of the HOLD button in the direction wanted; 6 power steps with + and –. The joystick can add more thrust; on release it returns to the HOLD level.
  • Thrust in the opposite direction (joystick or the other HOLD button) cancels it.
Level Signal Cause (12V / 24V system)
1 Single short beep every 2.4 sec. Below 9.3V/17.5V or above 85°C/185°F
2 Two short beeps every 2.4 sec. Below 8.9V/16.3V or above 100°C/212°F
3 Continuous beeps, red backlight Below 8.5V/15V or above 110°C/230°F

Beyond level 3, HOLD is cancelled and all thrusters stop.

First Start-Up

  1. A new system shows "SETUP DO NOT MATCH SYSTEM – press for auto setup" (no conflicts) or "RUN SETUP! DEVICES IN CONFLICT!" (two thrusters on the same instance). Thrusters cannot run until setup is done.
  2. Hold MENU 3 seconds, select SETUP, then SYSTEM DEVICES; PIN code 9 9 9 9 (not asked again within 15 minutes).
  3. The panel scans S-Link and lists every device with its instance and serial number: set each one's location and function.
  4. Exit to save: the setup is distributed to all PJC2xx panels on the bus.

You need the serial number and location of every S-Link device. Keep firmware up to date with the S-Link Programmer and firmware upgrade tool kit 6 1307.

Device Parameters

  • Location for every device: BOW / STERN, or BOW-STB / STERN-STB for the starboard unit in dual installations (catamarans). With a Sleipner hydraulic stabilizer plus AC or DC thrusters, set the thrusters to BOW-STB or STERN-STB.
  • PPC520 / PPC800 / PPC820 / PPC840: direction, type SEP / SRP / SRVP-SRLP, max output 50%-100%, thermo switch, extended runtime (ON by default), asymmetric thrust.
  • eVision (Exxx-xxV): direction, type E or ERV/ERL, max output, asymmetric thrust.
  • SR150000 retract: type SR(V/L) ON/OFF, SRVP/SRLP, SRHP/SRAC or ERV/ERL; Auto Retract Limit OFF / 3kn / 4kn / 5kn (default) / 6kn – needs GPS via GW-1; retract fully before exceeding five knots.
  • SR6 1242 retract: SR ON/OFF or SRP. SRC-3: location only.
  • RCRS 1 & 2 remote receivers: bow/stern thrust 75% default. MSI8730 interface: thrust 70%, final thrust and RAMP up/down for on/off inputs.
  • PDC 101 / 201 / PDC-301 AC controllers: location, direction, max output, load share limit, drive type (ACS580 default).
  • HOLD calibration: balance bow and stern so the boat moves sideways on heading; default 70% max. Joystick calibration (HW V2 or higher) for service, PIN 1 9 0 8.

Alarms

  • An alarm turns the LCD red and sounds the buzzer; a relay output can drive an external buzzer, warning lamp or the vessel's alarm system.
  • Alarm Info shows device name, location and fault code, and silences the alarm on all PJC2xx panels; exiting it resets alarms (they retrigger if the fault remains).
  • Look up codes in Sleipner's Fault Code Navigator.
  • With a Side-Power stabilizer: "WARNING! HIGH SPEED. STABILIZER NOT ACTIVE!".
  • SAC power management symbols: Power Not Available, or Reduced Power Mode (thrust limited to 50 %).

Panel Setup (defaults)

Setting Values (default)
Backlight level / night colour / night level 1-5 (5) / green, blue, red, white (green) / 1-3 (1)
Timer auto-off OFF or 01-60 min (05 min); 1-30 min with retract
Unit temperature Celsius / Fahrenheit
When retract is out No warning / warning every 10sec on the external buzzer
Relay output Alert level 1, 2 or 3 (3); level 2 only while thrust is sent
Panel facing Forward / Aft (rotates display and joysticks 180°)
Stabilizer alarms / alarm devices Enabled / all devices or thrusters only

Default Settings resets all panel settings and erases all system devices: setup must then be repeated.

Fitting

  1. Choose a flat, easy-to-reach spot at least 20 cm from any compass.
  2. Mark and cut the opening with the supplied cut-out template.
  3. Fit the gasket to the rear face; seal an uneven or chipped edge.
  4. Connect the S-Link spur cable; an external alarm buzzer (12V / 24V DC, max 0,5A) is optional on the relay output.
  5. Fit the panel and tighten the screws slowly with grease on the nut threads to prevent galling.
