Sleipner Control Panels PJC221 & PJC222 — Installation & User Manual

Panel Layout

  • PJC221: one speed-control joystick; PJC222: separate bow and stern joysticks. Both with information display, HOLD buttons, ON, STOP, OFF and day/night buttons.
  • Activate: press and hold ON – 1 second on the PJC221, 3 seconds on the PJC222 (as printed on the layout drawings).
  • Day/night button: press to switch backlight; hold 3 seconds for the menu system. OFF deactivates, cancels or goes back, and mutes the internal buzzer.
  • Display shows status, thrust and direction for bow and stern (and STB thrusters in dual setups), hydraulic oil temperature for hydraulic thrusters, motor temperature for AC thrusters.
  • Forward or reverse speed must not exceed 4 knots when using the thruster.

STOP Button

  • Immediately suspends all thruster and hydraulic stabilizer operation: red backlight, buzzer and a STOP symbol. Press again to resume.
  • With a hydraulic controller on S-Link it opens the load-sense dump valve and drops oil pressure to standby, typically 20 bar: thrusters stop, low-consumption equipment on the same hydraulic system may still work.
  • Supported by PHC024 and PHC-3 (all FW), PPC800 FW V1.029, PPC520 / PPC820 / PPC840 FW V1.0025 (as printed) and PDC-301 FW V2.013 or higher.

HOLD Function

  • Runs all thrusters in the same direction at a fixed level, to hold the boat against the dock while mooring.
  • Press + of the HOLD button in the direction wanted; 6 power steps with + and –. The joystick can add more thrust; on release it returns to the HOLD level.
  • Thrust in the opposite direction cancels it. HOLD calibration balances bow and stern (default 70% max).
Level Signal Cause (12V / 24V system)
1 Single short beep every 2.4 sec. Below 9.3V/17.5V or above 85°C/185°F
2 Two short beeps every 2.4 sec. Below 8.9V/16.3V or above 100°C/212°F
3 Continuous beeps, red backlight Below 8.5V/15V or above 110°C/230°F

Alarms

  • An alarm turns the LCD red and sounds the buzzer; a relay output can drive an external buzzer, warning lamp or the vessel's alarm system.
  • Inactive panels light up to show the alarm and switch off again once it is resolved.
  • Alarm Info shows device name, location and fault code and mutes the buzzer on all panels; exiting it resets alarms (they retrigger if the fault remains). Look up codes in Sleipner's Fault Code Navigator.
  • With a Sleipner stabilizer: warning when driving at high speed with the stabilizer inactive.
  • SAC power management: Power Not Available, or Reduced Power Mode (thrust limited to 50 %).

First Start-Up

  1. A new system shows "SETUP DO NOT MATCH SYSTEM" (auto setup available) or "RUN SETUP! DEVICES IN CONFLICT!". Thrusters cannot run until setup is done.
  2. Open the menu, SETUP, SYSTEM DEVICES; PIN code 9 9 9 9 (not asked again within 15 minutes).
  3. Set the location and function of each device found (BOW / STERN, or BOW-STB / STERN-STB for the starboard unit; with a hydraulic stabilizer plus AC or DC thrusters, use BOW-STB / STERN-STB for the thrusters).
  4. Exit to save: the setup is distributed to all PJC2xx panels on the bus.

Keep firmware up to date with the S-Link Programmer. Joystick calibration (service, HW V2 or higher) uses PIN 1 9 0 8.

Hydraulic Controllers

  • PHC024: parameters need FW V1.101 or newer (older: "FW too old. Parameters not supported!" – use the Danfoss service tool).
  • PHC024 Pump Control Auto (default): second PTO pump off when not needed; if stabilizers drop system pressure below 80bar it runs for 15 minutes.
  • PHC024 Cooling Pump Temp Controlled (default): on above 50°C/122°F, off below 40°C/104°F; Cooling Power Save drops the output after 10 seconds below 10 bar; inverted cooling signal for an electric pump with 10 2380A-12/24V relay box.
  • PHC024 Thruster Bow / Stern (FW V1.105): "with Bypass Valve" for all 513mm (20inch) and 610mm (24inch) tunnel thrusters; "without" for all others and for SRHP retractables.
  • PHC024 instance – / PORT / STARBOARD for catamarans with two controllers.
  • PHC-3: bow/stern direction, function Normal or SRHP, asymmetric thrust (also settable on the PHC-3 itself).
  • Also covered: PDC 101 / 201 / PDC-301 AC, AMS, PPC520 / PPC800 / PPC820 / PPC840, eVision, SR150000, SR6 1242, SRC-3, RCRS remotes, MSI8730, ESI-1 and GW-1 – each has its own setup section in the manual.

Panel Setup (defaults)

Setting Values (default)
Backlight level / night colour / night level 1-5 (5) / green, blue, red, white (green) / 1-3 (1)
Timer auto-off OFF or 01-60 min (05 min); 1-30 min with retract
Unit temperature Celsius / Fahrenheit
When retract is out No warning / warning every 10sec on the external buzzer
Relay output Alert level 1, 2 or 3 (3)
Panel facing Forward / Aft (rotates display and joysticks 180°)
Stabilizer alarms / alarm devices Enabled / all devices or thrusters only

Default Settings resets all panel settings and erases all system devices: setup must then be repeated.

Fitting

  1. Choose a flat, easy-to-reach spot at least 20 cm from any compass.
  2. Mark and cut the opening with the supplied cut-out template.
  3. Fit the gasket to the rear face; seal an uneven or chipped edge.
  4. Connect the S-Link spur cable; an external alarm buzzer (12V / 24V DC, max 0,5A) is optional on the relay output.
  5. Fit the panel and tighten the screws slowly with grease on the nut threads to prevent galling.
