Compatibility & LEDs

  • Displays status and operating information from all Sleipner S-Link compliant thrusters and stabilizer systems, except PHC-024.
  • MFDs from Garmin, Raymarine and Navico/Simrad (check compatible models with the MFD manufacturer).
  • Status LED: green constant = S-Link OK; green blinking = S-Link not connected; yellow blinking = firmware upgrade in progress; yellow constant = upgrade successful; red blinking = upgrade failed.
  • ETH Link/Act LED: green blinking = Ethernet connected; off = not connected.
  • At start-up the Status LED turns red and the ETH LED yellow, then red.

Using the Sleipner App

Thruster Dashboard

  • Once SDI-1 is installed and powered, the Sleipner app appears on compatible MFDs (see your MFD manual to start third-party apps).
  • Shows thruster type, applied thrust, direction and status for up to four thrusters, laid out by their physical location (bow / bow starboard / stern / stern starboard, e.g. catamarans).
  • Two bow (or two stern) thrusters share one joystick and one thrust indicator.
  • AC thrusters: motor temperature; DC thrusters: motor temperature and battery capacity (six levels); hydraulic: oil temperature (one symbol when one PHC-3 controls two thrusters). Temperature icon: green normal, yellow high, red alarm.
  • Retractable thrusters deploy when a control panel is turned ON and retract when it is turned OFF; Deploy/Retract symbols show until fully done.
  • AC thrusters with power management: a Waiting for VFD Power Available symbol shows until the VFD confirms power; an alarm triggers if no confirmation within 60 seconds.
  • Two joysticks on the same thruster: same direction → the higher thrust is used and shown; opposing directions → no thrust until one joystick returns to zero.

Stabilizer Dashboard & Alarms

  • Turn the stabilizer system ON/OFF and select At Anchor or Cruising; vessel roll and speed at the top, one icon per fin showing actual fin movement, lock icon when fins are locked.
  • Switch between dashboards with the buttons at the bottom of the touch screen.
  • Alarms broadcast on S-Link pop up on the MFD (the Sleipner app must be running). Thruster dashboard: blinking red background and an Access Alarm List icon lower left.
  • A thruster with an active alarm cannot be operated, except for the PHC3 Oil over temperature and Low oil level alarms.
  • Settings menu: stabilizer configuration, plus SDI-1 FW version, HW version and serial number under About.
  • Fault codes can be looked up in Sleipner's Fault Code Navigator (QR code in the manual).

Firmware Upgrade by USB

  1. Download the latest firmware to a USB flash drive from the S-Link Programmer software (available from Sleipner).
  2. Power up SDI-1 and wait for the Status LED to turn green or green blinking.
  3. Insert the flash drive in the SDI-1 USB port.
  4. The Status LED blinks yellow while uploading; SDI-1 keeps working normally. If the upgrade fails the LED turns red – removing the drive returns it to green.
  5. After success the LED stops blinking and turns yellow. Restart SDI-1 to use the new firmware: removing the flash drive reboots it.

Installing the SDI-1

  1. Fasten the SDI-1 box to a solid surface with four mounting screws.
  2. Connect an S-Link SPUR Cable between SDI-1 and a T-connector on the S-Link BACKBONE Cable.
  3. Connect an Ethernet cable between SDI-1 and the MFD – for most MFDs it can go to a switch on the same network as the MFD.
  4. Connect the 12V/24V power cable (red +, black GND), protected with a 1A/0.5A fuse. A switch can be added on the supply to turn SDI-1 fully off.
