S-Link Programmer and Tool Kit 6 1307
Install and Connect
- Download the latest S-Link Programmer, unzip and run SLI.msi with administrator privileges, and follow the wizard. Requires Microsoft .NET V4.0 or newer; Windows 7, 8, 10, 11.
- The Firmware Upgrade Tool Kit (order no. 6 1307) contains a USB to CAN dongle and cables to connect it to an S-Link BACKBONE cable (plug into a free T-connector).
- Power up all S-Link devices and the S-Link bus supply. An automatic main switch engages when S-Link Programmer is launched on a connected computer.
Access Levels
- Default level: Firmware Upgrade, Device Control and Special Purpose Firmware.
- Logger, Fault Codes, CAN Capture, stored logs and Device Coding need a user key from your local Sleipner representative.
- Main view lists every connected product: name, location, product SNR, S-Link SNR, HW, FW, available FW, bootloader, update status and device config.
- While connected, the Programmer keeps telling Automatic Main Switches (AMS) to be ON; after Disconnect an AMS stays on only if a connected panel is ON.
Upgrading Firmware
- Check For Updates runs at launch and prompts when a newer image file is released; Download Updates loads the latest image file containing firmware for all S-Link products.
- Upgrade Device updates the selected product; Upgrade All Devices updates all in sequence, skipping products with special upgrade conditions or newer firmware.
- Always verify: the revision in the FW column must not be lower than the Available FW column.
- Open .sif File loads a special image (test or debugging); restart the Programmer or use File → Download Updates to return to released firmware.
- Special Purpose Firmware only on Sleipner's instructions: select a product, pick the version, click Use, then Upgrade Device. A reset button on the main view reverts to default firmware.
- Download Manager fetches firmware for devices the Programmer cannot update (see that product's manual). Legacy products need Upgrade Bootloader for bootloader updates.
Logger, Fault Codes and CAN Capture
- S-Link Logger records selected parameters in real time (performance analysis, troubleshooting, commissioning tests); enter boat name and description, save as CSV or upload to Sleipner.
- Fault Code Reader shows the stored fault history of the selected product with its parameters and counters; save as text, upload, or delete. Without GPS on the network the time stamp is missing.
- CAN Capture records raw CAN packets of the whole S-Link network for network diagnosis.
- Device Coding changes the Coding parameter (e.g. electric vs hydraulic stabilizers); the device then enters bootloader mode and must be updated.
Quick Reference S-Link Alarm Codes

| 16 | Manual Override | Main switch manually overridden (auto reset) | Pull the main switch |
| 17 | Motion OUT Fault | Retract obstructed while deploying | Turn off all panels; go to lower speed / deeper water and retry |
| 18 | Motion IN Fault | Retract obstructed while retracting | Turn panel on and manually override main switch; remove obstruction and retry |
| 19 | Actuator Fault | Actuator not getting any power | Check actuator connection/power; reset alarm in the alarm menu on PJC 211/212/221/222 or recycle power |
| 20 | Pos.Sensor Fault | Retract position sensor fail | Check position sensor cables and sensor |
| 21 | In Service Mode | Retract controller in service mode (switch no. 4 ON) | Check dip-switch setting on the retract control box |
| 22 | High Oil Temp | Hydraulic oil above 75°C/167°F | Stop and let it cool; check the cooling pump runs |

PPC = PPC520, PPC820, PPC840 and PPC800. The external buzzer is only activated when a thruster device is operated (sending thrust on S-Link). Read the relevant manual before troubleshooting, or consult a professional.
Legacy Fault Codes (Older Products)
- The same generic codes 1–39 are used on old products and products with old firmware.
- The legacy document also holds the MK1/MK2/MK3 power steering troubleshooting guide (e.g. valve coil resistance 39,3Ω and servo valve coil 21,7Ω @20°C, low voltage alarm below 18V) and the 8700 retract panel flash-code guide.
- 8700 panel examples: 1 flash yellow & green = thruster overtemp (retracts; turn off panel, wait 20 min); 3 flash yellow & red = retract obstructed (retries 3 times); 2 flash yellow, green & red = AMS fuse blown.
After an IPC error turn the main switch off immediately to stop the thruster main relays overheating. A retractable thruster will not retract while reversing at high speed.
