Tunnel and Motor Dimensions
| Code | Description | Value |
|---|---|---|
| ID (min) | Internal tunnel diameter, min. | 679 mm |
| T | Tunnel thickness min. / max. | 12 / 25 mm (manual 8276: 15 / 25 mm) |
| TL | Tunnel length min. / recommended | 1000 / 1200 mm |
| WD | Water depth recommended / min. | 1200 / 1000 mm (manual 8276: min. 900 mm) |
| H | Height (varies with tunnel outside diameter) | 1390 - 1405 mm |
| W × L | Motor width × length | 585 × 661 mm |
| (ah) | Gear centre to first mounting point, horizontal | 976 mm |
| (b) | Gear centre to motor top | 1757 mm |
| (x) | Tunnel bracket length | 805 mm |
| Weight | Assembly / motor | 735 kg / 450 kg |
The lbs column for the weights is misprinted in the PDF (it repeats inch values), so only kg are given here. Manual 8276 gives different motor data (H 1505 mm, W 567 mm, L 762 mm, assembly 1175 kg for the -C version).
Tunnel and Gear Leg
- Position, tunnel length, deflectors and rounded tunnel ends (radius 10% of diameter; steel/aluminium hulls a 10-15% slope) as for the other SAC thrusters; coordinate the tunnel installation with a ship designer for hull strength.
- Metal hulls: never mount without the Sleipner galvanic isolation kit.
- Drill the centre hole first on the boat centreline: ØA 120 mm, B 105 mm, ØC 25 mm, D 54.8 mm, E 100 mm, F 127 mm, ØG 13 mm.
- Generous sealant on both sides of the gasket; it must squeeze out continuously round the gear housing joint inside the tunnel. Eye bolts in the propeller and motor shafts help lift the gear leg into place; support it on a wooden block.
- The gear leg is marked with a dot for the oil suction point: it must be at the lowest position (flip it 180° in horizontal installs if needed).
- Oil or grease the O-rings, assemble bracket, gasket and gear leg, apply thread paste and tighten to 80Nm.
Propeller, Motor and Coupling
- Fit one propeller only until oil filling is done. Parallel key up, approx. 1mm gap to the gear leg; grease only the thread (not the taper). Lock nut 400Nm without washer, remove, grease the washer face, refit to 400Nm and fold the tab washer. Anode hub bolts 25Nm.
- Protection cover pressed fully down on the shaft and parallel key in place before the coupling.
- Motor on a rigid separate bedding with cardan angle within +/- 1.5 degrees; in vertical installs the motor flange is the support (bracket designed with a naval architect).
- Coupling: size 80, axial and radial bolts M16 x 50 at 220Nm +/-5%, L 203, axial tolerance +/- 1, angular 0.15° each joint, radial 0.5mm. The flange hubs are a tight fit and must be heated onto the shafts. Radial bolts first, then axial, torque wrench only.
Oil Tank and Filling
- SAE 80W-90 API GL-5, about 6,5l including the container.
- Container above the waterline by at least 20% of the waterline-to-tunnel-centre distance. Fit the oil (feed) tube and the bleed tube to their nipples on the motor bracket – their orientation differs between vertical and horizontal installs. No loops in the tubes.
- Gravity feed: open the oil container valve, close the fill valve, fill and keep refilling the container until the system is full (slow, narrow oil channels).
- Pressure feed: connect a filling device to the fill valve (3/8" BSPP), close the container valve, open the fill valve and fill at no more than 1 bar until the container level is correct and stable.
- Afterwards close and secure the fill valve, open and secure the oil container valve.
Oil change: open the fill valve with the tank valve closed, draw the oil out with vacuum on the fill valve, then refill as above.
Power and Control
| Model | Supply | Max current | Min. cable, temp class 70 / 90 |
|---|---|---|---|
| SAC1700/679-C-4-H(V)-TT | 380-500 V | 206 A | 150 / 95 mm² multi core |
| SAC1700/679-C-4L-H(V)-TT | 380-415 V | 206 A | 150 / 95 mm² multi core |
- General indication only: the VFD and power cabling must be installed by certified electricians to the VFD manual, allowing for regulations, temperature, routing and length. Use shielded VFD motor cable.
- The blower motor has its own yard-supplied circuit with 3-pole circuit breaker, contactor and motor protection (see the electrical diagram in the PDF).
- PDC-301 commissioning, PMS integration, motor over-temperature limits (130°C thrust limitation, 150°C shut-down) and S-Link wiring follow the SAC procedure: the VFD runs a motor ID run on first start from local mode, then is switched to Remote.
