- Max thrust is available until the motor winding exceeds 130°C; current draw is the max set in the VFD; generator load is not the required generator capacity – indicatively plan 2 x the listed load with the generator supplier. Low harmonic drives (THD <5%) on request.
- VFDs: ACS880-01-293A-3 (frame R8, 380-415 V) or ACS880-37-293A-5 (low harmonic, frame R11, 380-500 V) for 400V systems; ACS880-01-174A-7 (R8) or ACS880-37-174A-7 (R11) for 690 V.
- No integrated galvanic separation (optional kit).
The specification table in the PDF heads both columns "SAC2200/730-I-4(L)-H(V)" (as printed); the second column has the -C data.

Gear Leg and Bracket
- Metal hulls: never mount without the Sleipner galvanic isolation kit.
- Drill the centre hole first on the vessel centreline: ØA 160 mm, B 130 mm, ØC 26 mm, D 50 mm, ØE 37 mm (SAC/SH2200).
- Sealant on both sides of the gasket; eye bolts in the propeller and motor shafts help lift the gear leg; support it on a wood block.
- The gear leg carries a dot for the oil suction point: it must be at the lowest position (flip 180° in horizontal installs if needed).
- Oil or grease the bracket O-rings, assemble with thread paste and tighten the gear leg to the motor bracket at 250Nm.
- Fill the gap between motor bracket and tunnel with epoxy casting resin through the four filler ports until it shows at the two bleed ports (horizontal installs: the two lower ports, bleed from the upper); bleed and filler port screws 28Nm.
Propeller and Motor
- Seat the propeller on the taper and check free rotation before locking. Fit one propeller until oil filling is done.
- Parallel key up, approx. 1mm gap; grease only the thread. Lock nut to 500Nm without washer, remove, grease the washer face, refit to 500Nm and fold the tab washer. Anode bolts 30Nm; the plug on the gear leg housing 35Nm (from the drawing).
- Protection cover pressed fully onto the shaft and parallel key in place before the coupling.
- Motor on a rigid separate bedding (cardan angle within +/- 1.5 degrees), or supported on the motor flange in vertical installs.
- Coupling size 140, axial and radial bolts M20x65 at 500Nm +/-5%, L 250, angular 0.15° each joint, radial 0.5mm. Radial bolts first, then axial, torque wrench only.
Motor bracket filler – required resin properties
| Initial viscosity | Pot life | Tg max onset | Tensile modulus | Flexion modulus | Compression yield | Charpy resilience |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| <3000 mPa.s | >1 h | >60 °C | >5000 N/mm² | >4000 N/mm² | >80 N/mm² | >7 kJ/m² |
Sleipner gives Sicomin SR CA 85 with SD8701 hardener as one example; post curing may be needed – follow the resin datasheet.
Oil Tank and Filling
- Oil: Meropa EliteSyn XM 150, about 10l including the container.
- Container above the waterline by at least 20% of the waterline-to-tunnel-centre distance; oil (feed) and bleed tubes to their nipples on the motor bracket, no loops.
- Gravity feed: container valve open, fill valve closed, keep refilling the container (slow). Pressure feed: device on the fill valve (3/8" BSPP), container valve closed, never more than 1 bar. Finish with the fill valve closed and secured, the container valve open and secured.
- Oil change: open the fill valve with the tank valve closed, remove the oil by vacuum on the fill valve, refill as above.
Control and Commissioning
- VFD and power cabling by certified electricians, to the VFD manual, with shielded VFD motor cable.
- PDC-301 proportional drive controller on S-Link: configured as bow thruster by default; first start with a VFD motor ID run in local mode, then Remote mode; optional PMS integration; thrust limited above 130°C winding temperature and motor stop above 150°C.
