Pre-fill the motor housing with hydraulic oil before start-up and use the upper drain port. The flow and pressure table for BA200/BA250/BA355 is in the PDF; its column headings and units are hard to read as printed, so it is not repeated here – confirm values with Sleipner for your hydraulic design.
Gear Leg and Bracket
- Metal hulls: never mount without the Sleipner galvanic isolation kit.
- Drill the centre hole first on the vessel centreline: ØA 160 mm, B 130 mm, ØC 26 mm, D 50 mm, ØE 37 mm.
- Sealant both sides of the gasket; eye bolts in the shafts help lift the gear leg; support it on a wood block. The suction-point dot on the gear leg must be at the lowest position.
- Oil or grease the bracket O-rings, thread paste on the bolts; gear leg to motor bracket 250Nm.
- Fill the gap between motor bracket and tunnel with epoxy casting resin via the filler ports until it shows at the bleed ports; port screws 28Nm.
- Propeller lock nut 500Nm (tab washer), anode bolts 30Nm, gear leg plug 35Nm.
Motor and Coupling
- Protection cover fully down on the shaft, parallel key in place.
- Seawater resistant grease on both shafts; lower coupling hub on the gear leg key way, not yet tightened.
- Upper bracket to lower bracket: 130Nm.
- Spider on the lower hub, upper hub on the motor shaft with its set screw lightly tightened; lower the motor so hubs and spider engage and centre the coupling through the side openings.
- Tighten both coupling set screws to 17Nm, then the motor bolts and washers to 250Nm.
- Turn the propellers by hand to confirm the coupling drives both shafts. Keep the motor ports covered until the hoses are fitted.
A crossover valve must be mounted as close as possible to the motor.
Oil Tank and Filling
- Meropa EliteSyn XM 150, about 10l including the container, which sits above the waterline by at least 20% of the waterline-to-tunnel-centre distance; feed and bleed tubes without loops.
- Gravity feed (container valve open, fill valve closed, slow) or pressure feed through the 3/8" BSPP fill valve at no more than 1 bar. Finish with the fill valve closed and the container valve open, both secured.
- Oil change: fill valve open, tank valve closed, draw the oil out by vacuum on the fill valve, refill as above.
