Motor / gear housing AC electric, IP55; seawater resistant bronze gear housing, hardened precision gears AC electric; seawater resistant bronze, aluminium motor bracket
  • Both are CE approved, proportional speed and twin counter-rotating; a flexible coupling between AC motor and drive shaft protects the gears against peak loads. S-Link control; cables and panel not included.
  • Max thrust is available until the motor winding exceeds 130°C. Generator load is not the required generator capacity – select with the generator supplier; low harmonic drives (THD <5%) on request.
  • VFDs for SRAC320: ACS580-01-089A-2 (R5, 208-240V), ACS580-01-046A-4 (R3, 380-480V), ACS580-31-046A-4 (R6, low harmonic). SRAC300 low harmonic: ACS880-31-045A-3.
  • Retract controller 150000: 7VDC min., 12/24VDC nominal, 31VDC max.; minimum for deployment 11.7VDC (12V) or 23.4VDC (24V and 48V retracts); fuse 40A; -10°C to +60°C.

Dimensions

Code Description SRAC320 / SRAC300
L Length 843 mm / 33.19"
W Width 580 mm / 22.83"
H (+H) Height (additional height) 454 mm (+266 mm)
MH Mould height (flange height) 106 mm / 4.17"
RD Retract depth 453 mm / 17.83"
RW / MW Retract width / mould width 413 / 480 mm
ID / WD Internal tunnel diameter / water depth 300 / 300 mm

Minimum tunnel depth below the waterline for 300 mm retract systems: 300mm. Allow 100mm clear space round the unit for moulding the flange and for service.

Position and Cut-out

  • Hatch opens towards the bow (direction of travel). Bow units on the keel centre line, as far forward as the depth requirement allows; stern units may be offset to clear propellers, trim tabs and rudders.
  • Sandwich hulls: remove inner skin and core at least 100mm round the flange and reinforce with bonding layers.
  • Trim the SRF flange to the hull curvature so both side rails sit flush; never cut the length edge. Cut the hatch at 45º on three sides and 30º on the bow face (corner holes drilled at 45º), so slamming loads go into the hull.
  • Pre-check with the housing on the flange: DIP switch 4 ON (service mode), DOWN/UP to confirm the hatch opens clear and closes flush with pressure on the contact edges; grind the flange or wedge up the aft end as needed.
  • Keep the red spacer block (SRAC300: wooden safety part above the propeller) in place until the hatch installation calls for its removal.

Bonding and Assembly

  • Grind the gelcoat 200mm round the opening, glue the flange in position, then laminate inside and out with compatible materials and coat.
  • Housing on the flange with MS Polymer over the whole top face, washers as spacers while it semi-cures, bolts to 4Nm - 2,9lb/ft in a cross pattern, sealant bead inside.
  • Hatch: drill four Ø11mm countersunk holes, glue on the twist rings, bolt up with lock nuts, fill the hull/hatch gap and coat.
  • Motor bracket to housing: 4 bolts 33Nm (24lb/ft); motor to bracket 33Nm (24lb/ft). The propeller must turn by hand; grease the internal drive shaft; anti-foul gear house and propellers but not anodes, seals, rubber parts or shafts.
  • SRAC300 only: oil tank above the waterline by at least 20% of the waterline-to-tunnel-centre distance, oil tube without loops; the motor fitted with the solenoid facing the control box.

Power, VFD and Commissioning

Model Supply Max current Min. cable, temp class 70 / 90
SRAC320/300-2 208-240V 3-phase 80 A 35 / 25 mm² multi core
SRAC320/300-4 380-440V 3-phase 46 A 16 / 10 mm² multi core
  • VFD and power cabling by certified electricians to the VFD manual; shielded VFD motor cable; RFI filter per drive as shown in the control diagram. The retract controller 150000 has its own 24V DC supply.
  • PDC-301: 9-31V from the S-Link bus, less than 1W, -20°C to 70°C, 150g/5.3oz, IP-66; continuous green LED = communication OK, flashing green = no communication.
  • First start: shaft turns freely, exit the VFD "Set-up Assistant", Loc/Rem to local, Start for the motor ID run, Stop, then Loc/Rem to Remote. The PDC-301 is a bow thruster by default – change the instance for stern or catamaran use on the PJC-2xx.
  • Optional PMS integration via VFD parameter 20.12 (ACS580) / 20.40 (ACH580); fault 36101.1.200 VFD PMS TIMEOUT if no Thruster Enable within 60 seconds, 36101.1.204 PMS SIGNAL LOST if lost while running. PDC-301 load sharing limits combined bow/stern generator load (see the SAC user manual).
  • Controller: check the actuator lever arm pointer aligns with the red mark when deployed; if not, calibrate in Service Mode and Sensor Calibration Mode (hold UP and DOWN until STATUS is green). DIP 1 OFF for two actuators, ON for one; DIP 2 ON only for P8 type actuators.
