Fitting

  • Flat mounting surface within ±1mm, extending 12mm beyond the cut-out. Deck/hull thickness 8–24mm (portlight) or 8–35mm (fixedlight).
  • Hold the inner frame inside to check for a flat bearing area; mark the cut-out in pencil. Make a template when fitting several.
  • Cut along the line; seal exposed laminate on composite decks; deburr metal decks. Portlights are not stiffening members: stiffen the deck against heavy-weather distortion.
  • Measure the skin thickness T (and inner trim if fitted). Re-check the frame in the aperture, then bed the outer-frame channel with an adhesive marine sealant (e.g. silicone), at least 3mm thick and compressible.
  • Fit the outer frame squarely on the opening with the inner frame joint on the lower edge; bolt up from the centre out to the ends, maximum torque 2.8Nm (25 in.lb). Clean off surplus sealant.
  • Portlights: check opening, closing and locking and even seal pressure. Leave the flyscreen on board.
Skin thickness T Screw Order No.
8 – 10mm M5x16 360360999
11 – 15mm M5x20 360361999
16 – 19mm M5x25 360362999
20 – 24mm M5x30 360363999

The M5 screws supplied suit skin thickness 8–10mm. A wrong screw length damages the product. Our store lists these order numbers with different screw lengths, so ask us to confirm before ordering.

User Notes

  • Flyscreens fit between the outer frame and the seal, so the portlight closes with the screen in place.
  • Deadlight: make a plywood, aluminium or fibreglass plate notched to clear hinges and handles; remove the trim moulding and drill and tap the inner frame to bolt it on.
  • Wash with soap, water and a soft cloth. Never use abrasive or solvent cleaners on the acrylic.
