Lewmar Winch Service Manual — Volume III

Service Intervals

  • Monthly: hose down with fresh water, then lightly oil and grease.
  • Two or three times in the active season: strip, clean and relubricate.
  • End of season or before the new one: strip completely, clean, check for damage, lubricate and reassemble.
  • Winches are stripped from the top; assemble in the reverse order of dismantling.
  • Grease: Lewmar Grease 7010 (Lubriplate Marine Lube 'A', etc.). Oil: light machine oil (3-in-1 or equivalent).

Mounting

  • Use the correct size and type of retaining bolts; remove the drum to mount the winch.
  • Mount on a flat, clean surface. Mark off and drill the bolt hole centres separately.
  • Bed the winch on a LIGHT coating of sealing compound; too much gets into the gears and pawls.
  • Tighten the fastenings securely but do not overtighten.
  • The winch is self draining: keep the drain holes clear.
  • All these winches take a standard international handle.
