Cam upgrades CAM0610, 0814 and 1216 can be fitted to tune the clutch to a specific application. Warranty: 5 years, subject to Spinlock's published terms.

Installation

  • Plan the most efficient clutch layout before marking out and drilling 8.5 mm (11/32") holes.
  • Fit the clutch forward of the winch with the handle opening towards the load; keep the rope deflection angle as small as possible.
  • In a bank, give the most heavily loaded lines the least deflection.
  • The line from clutch up to the winch drum must not exceed 10°; increase the clutch-to-winch distance or raise the clutch on a wood or Delrin pad.
  • Stainless M8 (5/16") countersunk fasteners with full nuts and washers; silicone sealant around the threads.
  • Foam sandwich decks need extra reinforcement – consult your boatyard.
  • Side mounting: conversion kit XTS-SMNT (XCS-SMNT for XCS).

Use & Safety

  • Open the handle fully forward to thread the line. Closed, the clutch holds the rope as the winch is eased.
  • Allow up to 20 mm (1") of rope creep as the cam engages; grip on new rope improves with use. Rinse the gripping area of new rope in sea water first.
  • Two-stage release: first stage takes no load and lets you improve your grip; the second releases the line.
  • Release under load only with the line controlled on a winch drum – never flick the handle open on a heavily loaded clutch.
  • Braided fibre rope only; never three-strand or wire.
  • Never use polysulphide or polyurethane sealants.

Drill Guides & Dimensions

The XTS drill guide (extra download) is drawn at 1:2 on A4, so it is not a full-size template: set your printer for the drawing scale and always check the dimensions against the clutch before drilling. The XCS single and double drawings carry dimensions in mm but no printed scale – measure, do not trace.

Drawing Length Hole pitch (fore–aft) Width Bank pitch Fasteners Weight on drawing
XTS/1 156 70 40 – M8 CSK × 2 550g
XTS/2 156 70 70 30.5 M8 CSK × 4 1050g
XTS/3 156 70 100 30.5 M8 CSK × 6 1550g
XCS0814/1 156 70 36 – 2 × M8 CSK (5/16") –
XCS0814/2 156 70 66 30.5 4 × M8 CSK (5/16") –

All in mm. The 58 dimension locates the first hole from the end of the base; 70 is the spacing between the two holes of each line. XTS drawings also show the rope centre line 22 above the base, Ø8.5 holes, height 86 and an R116 handle swing (allow space for it). XTS-SMNT side-mount kit: 25 mm base, height 85, uses M6 fasteners (supplied).

The drill-guide weights (550g, 1050g, 1550g) differ from the weights in the manual table (510g, 980g, 1470g); both are copied as printed.

Maintenance & Accessories

  • Flush regularly with fresh water and apply silicone spray or grease when dry.
  • Inspect before each session.
  • Never use mineral oil or solvent-based lubricants such as WD40: they degrade the moulded composite parts (risk of sudden structural failure) and the composite bushes.
  • When removing cam and handle, follow the text and diagram supplied with the spares kit.
