Harken Reflex Furling Ordering Guide

What It Is For

For free-flying asymmetric spinnakers, cruising spinnakers and gennakers with a loose, positive luff longer than the leech.

Boat Requirements

  • A spinnaker halyard.
  • An attachment bail or adjustable tack fitting on a bowsprit or bow extension, so the furler clears the forestay and bow pulpit.

Ordering Steps

  • 1. System size: use "Typical Boat Length" and "Maximum Sail Area" on the unit pages. For code zero sails the loads are higher, so maximum boat length and sail area are smaller.
  • 2. Components: the asymmetric kit has everything for one sail: drive unit with snap shackle attachment, tack swivel, head swivel, torsion cable and a set of cable clamps. For each additional sail, order a tack swivel, head swivel, Reflex torsion cable and cable clamps; the quick-release T-slot swaps furled sails.
  • 3. Torsion cable length: measure the Full Hoist Dimension (FH), from the sail attachment point at the top of the rig to the bow fitting or fully extended bowsprit. Choose a kit with more cable than your FH.
  • 4. Attachment to boat: standard is a threaded snap shackle adapter; alternatives below.
  • 5. Furling line: Reflex needs a continuous furling line. Ask your rigger for a structural cover over a non-structural core, and have the aft block captured in the loop before splicing. The spliced loop can be loaded into stanchion leads and the drive unit.

Furling Line

Unit Line Ø in Line Ø mm Loop length (cruisers) Loop length (racers)
1 1/4 6 Measure from furler to aft lead block in cockpit J dimension plus bowsprit length minus 60 cm (2')
2 5/16 8 Measure from furler to aft lead block in cockpit J dimension plus bowsprit length minus 60 cm (2')

Line length to buy: double the loop length, plus enough for the overlap in the end-for-end splice.
