Lewmar Winch Service Manual — Volume 6

This manual is split into 4 pages: Part 1 · Part 2 → · Part 3 → · Part 4 →

Service Routine

  • Monthly: hose down with fresh water, then lightly oil and grease.
  • Two or three times in the active season: stop, clean and re-lubricate.
  • End of season or before the new one: strip completely, clean, check for damage, lubricate and reassemble.
  • Assemble in the reverse sequence to dismantling.
  • Grease: Lewmar Grease 7010 (Lubriplate Marine Lube 'A', etc). Oil: light machine oil (3-in-1 or equivalent).

Mounting

  • Use the correct size and type of retaining bolts.
  • Remove the drum to mount the winch, on a flat, clean surface.
  • Mark off and drill each bolt hole separately.
  • Bed on a LIGHT coat of sealing compound: too much gets into the gears and pawls.
  • Tighten the fastenings securely but do not over-tighten, and keep the drain holes clear.
  • All current winches accept any standard international handle.
